A New Twist to Traditional Printmaking

ETCHED COLLAGE GICLÉE

Etching Process

FIRST, artist Gina Gigli etched and aquatinted her abstracted images onto zinc plates, using brushes and twisted steel scribers, etching ground, lacquer sprays, and nitric acid.

SECOND, Ruggero Gigli, Villa Gigli Press, hand-printed the limited edition etchings onto various shades of white Magnani Italian etching paper.

Collage Process

THIRD, Gina Gigli created original collages by ripping selected pieces from her trial-proof etchings. She reassembled these paper fragments into entirely new compositions by overlapping the torn edges, pasting with archival glue, and hand-rolling the papers securely onto acid-free foam core.

Giclée Process

FOURTH, Michael Nelson, Grafx 8 Media Group, scanned Gina Gigli’s original collages and printed limited edition giclées on pH neutral, 100% acid free, 140 lb. Hahnemuhle German etching paper, using pigmented inks with a life expectancy of over 100 years.

Each unframed giclée measures 20"x26" and is signed in pencil by the artists.
