Gina Gigli was born "Jane Green" in southern California to parents "Brownie" and Frank W. Green.

Gina always planned on becoming an artist and writer. She attended Glendale schools, studied art with Raul Angiano at the University of Mexico in Mexico City and graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs with a degree in Fine Art, learning painting from Emerson Woelffer and print-making from Lawrence Barrett. Married to Howard Hickson in 1952, her three sons are Kendall, Andrew and Patrick Hickson. In 1969, Jane Green married Ruggero Gigli at Lake Tahoe, gaining the new name of Gina Gigli and a lifetime supply of homemade pasta and pizza. Their daughter is Dina Marina Gigli. In 1973, they moved from Carson City, Nevada to the High Sierra tiny town of Markleeville, California. They created a new career of printmaking and established Villa Gigli Press, with Gina creating the etched plate and Ruggero hand-pulling the prints. They took two "sabbaticals" from living in the mountains; one year in Carmel and four years in Napa Valley, where Gina's etchings, silk banners, wine labels, etched menus and engraved wine bottles were featured in the Central Coast Wine Auction, the Napa Valley Wine Auction, Sterling Vineyards, Domaine Chandon, Christian Brothers Winery, Silver Oak Cellars, Franciscan Winery, Domaine Mumm, Sequoia Grove, Martini, Pedroncelli, Harrah's and Harveys at Lake Tahoe and the Las Vegas Hilton. She also had two exhibitions in Firenze, Italia; one with oils painted on location in Italy at Galleria Vaccarino and the other at Galleria Ducci with etchings. Gina has written three books; "Dat So La Lee," "Poco Pane, Poco Vino - A Little Bread, A Little Wine" and "What's Eating America." She also writes magazine articles and is a newspaper columnist. |
